Ubuntu
Well, since my mum recently broke Vista (turned it off by holding down the button, WHILE IT PARTITIONED Guests cannot see images in the forums. Since Widows couldn't handle installing the wireless drivers, I gave them to Ubuntu.

After about half a Wednesday using ndiswrapper, I can finally get web access on my main computer, giving me a reason to use Linux.

And I really like it. When I have time, it's going on my netbook as well. The interface is fantastic and smooth, and apart from the terminal stuff, it's really easy to use. And getting new software is fun to with its new Software Centre, which give access to a lot of extra programs and stuff.

The colours can be changed around easily, and the interface is much nicer than Windows or Mac, as they both go for lots of gloss and eye-candy, where Ubuntu goes for smooth and sleek and soft.

Why did I not notice this before?

Only problems are I can't use Office 2010, or Visual Basic. Or play any of the games I have on CD. But Ubuntu has 'net, and Windows doesn't.

And did I mention that Ubuntu saved my computer when it wouldn't boot up?
Ubuntu, i'll never make fun of you again [much!].

RE: Ubuntu
I downloaded Ubuntu and burnt it to a CD a few weeks ago, but so far I haven't been bothered to actually put it onto a computer. I'm not experienced with installing and messing around with operating systems, so I don't want to try it on a computer that is actually in use. I have a few spare computers around the house, but to use them would been unplugging my computer from the monitor etc., and I just can't be bothered...
I do want to try Ubuntu at some point, and perhaps also Chrome OS, but for now I just can't be bothered...

RE: Ubuntu
To be honest, doing a dual boot was far simpler that I thought it would be. All linux needs is a bit of empty space on your hard drive, and the installer goes from there. The bootloader is installed automatically, so these's not much to worry about.

Damn it, two days and I'm already trying to convert people Guests cannot see images in the forums. Please register to the forum by clicking here to see images.

Wow, it must be good! Guests cannot see images in the forums. Please register to the forum by clicking here to see images.
As I said, I've been wanting to do it for quite a while, so I probably will do it eventually, but I just need to make the effort to find a computer that works and get it connected to a monitor and stuff.

RE: Ubuntu
Check out Wubi... That's the best Ubuntu installer if you want a safe dual-boot...
Ubuntu's cool but a bit bloated tbh.

That installs from Windows, if I remember correctly.

I noticed. Like, two or three ways to do anything...
OTOH, I haven't really liked any of the other distros. Guests cannot see images in the forums. Please register to the forum by clicking here to see images.

I don't mind a little bit of bloat. Ubuntu's supposed to be the best one for people just starting out on Linux, so I think I'll be happy with it, although I did consider trying Kubuntu, which is very similar.
As for Wubi: Because it's my first time, I don't want to do a dual-boot just yet, but when/if I do, I'd rather do it the manual way, or possibly on a Mac, if I get one, using Boot Camp.

RE: Ubuntu
Using boot camp isn't recommended really unless you want a triple or quad boot with Vista or XP.
GNOME>KDE.
Nah, by Ubuntu being bloated I mean it has too many gimicky things like compiz enabled by default, loads of applications you don't need, etc.
TBH, you might as well, you can uninstall it with-in Windows like any other application. It's extremely safe and you seriously can't mess up, even when it's creating the virtual partition.
