My Opinions on the iPad

Apple, Gadgets

the iPadAs you all know the iPad, Apple’s new tablet device, was announced last week. Some people think it’s a stupid product. I’m here to change your mind.

Flash: Let’s get this out of the way. Flash is dying. HTML5 is more efficient and easier to use. Flash also eats up tons of power and RAM. When Apple removed the floppy drive from their original iMac people were pissed. But look what happened. The CD-ROM took over floppies. Apple is always one step ahead of the game.

The name: I know… it is a stupid name.

Multitasking: It’s coming in iPhone 4.0.

Camera: From all the rumors I’ve read it’s probably coming in the sequel. But there’s also the possibility that it might be a surprise in the first gen.

It’s just a big iPhone!: So what? The last time I checked, the iPhone is a pretty awesome product. Plus you can’t expect Apple to innovate every time.

It’s not widescreen: I can’t help but agree with people on this one. Why Apple?

It’s not like a netbook: It’s not meant to be! For Christ’s sake! Why do people keep trying to compare it to one? If you want a full desktop experience in a small package buy a netbook. Apple’s not forcing you to buy one.

Other stuff: In response to Ziaix’s post

Let’s get this out of the way first. When people are gonna be using this is when they’re at home relaxing on a couch or in a chair. No one is going to be going jogging with this. People are going to be using this to casually browse the web, watch movies, and read books.

Work: the keyboard actually looks pretty comfortable to type on. As I said before people won’t be using it that much outside the house and I have no doubt that people will just prop it up on their legs to type.

Play: You will be amazed how many different kinds of gameplays will come out on the iPad. I can’t imagine using this with accelerometer gameplay but more with games you manipulate with your fingers.

Communication: I think it will be an awesome device for communication. Its bigger screen will let developers develop better communication apps for it.

Audio: As I said before it’s not supposed to be something you carry around with you. It’s for casually listening to music while surfing the web and such.

Video: I agree, video on it will be awesome!

GPS: It may not be needed, but heck, why not?

My opinion:

I think the iPad will be an awesome device for casually watching video, surfing the web and using iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad/Whatever the hell they’re called now, apps. Don’t forget iBooks! That is the feature I’m looking forward to the most. An e-reader that can do more than just read books? Count me in! Plus the awesome apps developers will make for it? Awesome! I can see this as a device I would use after a day at school to relax, watch some YouTube videos, look at some blogs, and, before I go to bed at night, read some books. Plus my grandma wants to buy me one which is awesome! A couple of weeks after I get one I’ll do a review on it.

OK. There you go. I’ve made a few minor changes to tags, and added in a read more link. But I’ve left the content of it the same. If there’s anything you’d like me to change back that you can’t do yourself, just ask.

Multitasking: You say it’ll be in OS 4.0. The way you say it suggests it’s a fact. Are you sure it will, or is it just wishful thinking? Also, will it be in the iPhone and iPod Touch as well? Or will it be a modified OS for the iPad?
Camera: Personally, I think a rear-facing camera like on the iPhone would be a bad idea. It’s too big to hold up to take photos with. However, a front facing camera for video conferencing would be a brilliant addition.
It’s just a big iPhone: I agree with the argument you make here, but I would like to point out that it’s more similar to an iPod Touch, due to the lack of an actual phone :P (which is another thing I think Apple did RIGHT)

I agree completely with your final point, about it being an eBook reader that can do more than just books. That is probably going to be one of its biggest markets.
I would say they’re called iPhone Apps, for now. Because it is after all still the iPhone OS. Perhaps use iPad Apps to refer to the specialised apps designed for it.

All-in-all a great post. It’s also nice to see posts that don’t have hundreds of grammar errors in them. Why is it that we teenagers can do it better than professional writers?
