iWhat…?

Apple, Gadgets, News, Reviews

Continuing on the iPad news, I thought I would throw in my views, seeing as there’s so much hype about it right now.

First off, iAgree with Zagorath. iPad was a terrible choice of name, and sounds far too much like a certain product. Any other company couldn’t sell this.

But Zagorath has already elaborated on this point. I’m here to talk about the realities of using it (And also to protect my honur as a netbook user ;) ).

So, it’s a x4 sized iTouch. No keyboard, no proper aspect ratio, and more borders than America. But really, what is it for?

Work? No way. iCan’t* imagine typing on there to be at all comfortable, and with the keyboard up, you’ve lost half the screen. The keyboard is also smaller than that of a netbook, which is already hard to type on without hitting the wrong keys.

Play? “You want to what with what?” Need I say more? Yes? Well, just how will you play on it? The iPhone became a very popular for gaming – but it wasn’t designed or made for games, and mainly appealed to casual gamers. It was very portable, easy to play on, etc, etc. Just how are Apple going to repeat that with something the size of 4 iPhones? Holding it up to play won’t work  – it’s too big. Placing it on a surface may work, but only for a few games. At this size, you may as well get a netbook or notebook, or even a Nintendo DS. Because those things can all actually play games.

Communication? For phoning people maybe? But do you really want to hold a 10-inch iPhone to your head? Maybe webcam chat – no, wait, what was that? You don’t have a camera? Really!? Email – same points as for work there. Typing won’t be easy, and one had will probably be holding it up.

Audio? Yes, it can do audio, and probably well knowing Apple. It even has iTunes. But a 10″ mp3 player? Again, no.

Video? The first good idea for something to do with it. Watching films and youtube, it could do a brilliant job. First score for Apple.

GPS? Yes, I’m getting desperate for good points now. But are you really going to take this walking, and will it fit in your car as a GPS system? Again, no.

So, Apple, what will you have us do with it? You’ve already committed it to a lifetime of jokes about it’s iName**, now is it going to have a lifetime of uselessness?

Well, maybe it will amount to something. Maybe Shaken_Earth will have something to say about it in a future post, as I know he’s exited about it.

*Last iJoke. Promise.

**Ok, I lied. Get over it.

(Also, interestingly enough, the Apple site lists it as being able to work at 10000 feet. Cool.)

I am all in all looking to buy the Apple iPad, and I am enjoyed to see what sorts of gamez and applications will be created for it. I just don’t catch some of the nitpicky criticisms in this website. Size of the bezel?? LOL!

I am looking forward to buying the ipad just to play around with it, but for most people it will not be able to replace their current gadgetry such as the kindle and iphone.
