iPad: Apple’s new feminine hygiene product?

Apple, Gadgets, News

Oh Good Lord!

*smacks his face*

iCan’t believe they actually called it the iPad.

It is such an awful name iCan’t even begin to say how bad it is. iCan, off the top of my head, think of two reasons that it’s a bad name. The first is a relatively minor one, but still important.

  1. It sounds FAR too much like iPod. This could get very confusing
  2. It sounds like a friggen (Please excuse the language; it’s taken all my effort not to have far worse language in this post.) feminine hygiene product

It seems to me that this is simply arrogance on their part. It’s like they think they can get away with it ‘coos they’re Apple’. And you know what? iThink they’re right. If any other company had come up with this horrendous name the product simply wouldn’t sell. It would be a complete failure, based on the name alone. It could be as good as the existing iPad, but it wouldn’t sell. (Unless, of course, it was actually a feminine hygiene product.)

iWas hoping that they would FINALLY drop the now obsolete—not to mention downright annoying—’i’ prefix to their products. But no. They decided to keep it. iHad heard the rumour that it would be called the iPad, based on a registration in New Zealand and Australia, but iDidn’t take it seriously for a minute. I mean, who thinks of a name as ridiculous as that, right? If they had to keep the i prefix, iWould have hoped that they would have given it a good name, like the iSlate, or the iTablet (less so).

I can think of dozens of names that would be better than this. iSlate, iTablet, Apple Tablet, MacSlate, MacTablet, Apple Slate, the list goes on. iHonestly think that they chose this name to spite us. iImagine them sitting in their iOffices laughing at how they got millions of people to buy a product with a name like this.

It would seem I’m not the only one with this point of view. Stephen Chapman of Microsoft Kitchen is also making fun of it.

“iPun on the iPad while listening to my iPod” – That one’s self-explanatory and really, really stupid, but… it was funny in the moment!

“I love how Steve Jobs called the iPad “revolutionary.” There’s nothing revolutionary about a big-ass iPhone! *EV*olutionary, maybe…” which I then followed up with, “[a]ctually, it’s not even an oversized iPhone… it’s a ginormous iPod Touch! iPad Touch, iPod Touch… who’s keeping track of these things?” – This one actually brings me to a good point. This thing really is just a ginormous iPod touch… and from what iCan tell so far, it’s not even as functional as one! Time will tell.

“iPad iPed iPid iPod iPud – The vowels recited in Apple’s iLanguage, 2 out of 5 are actual products! (Oh, and sometimes iPyd)” – That says it all!

The one thing iCan say in its defence is that at least it follows a trend. iPod, iPhone, and now iPad. all begin with iP. Obviously not all of the iProducts fit this trend, iMac, iSight, just to name a few. However their most popular ones are like this.

Now, I’ll admit that iDon’t know much about it. iKnow that the price is about what iExpected, which is less than what a lot of the hype seemed to be saying. And iKnow it’s screen size is 9.7 inches. But apart from that, iDon’t know much about it. iDon’t intend to criticise it as an iProduct. For all iKnow it could be brilliant, or it could be a piece of iRubbish. I’ll form that iOpinion later.

I’m currently downloading the Vodcast from Apple’s channel in iTunes. Then I’ll form an opinion on what the product itself is like. Until then, iMaintain that the naming could not have been worse.
