A lot of schools now have wireless networks, some are actually quite extensive and may provide more than just internet access. Another thing schools usually have are school laptops. Wheeled around on a little cart for teachers to take advantage of. Different school’s have different systems for their networks, but almost all of them set the laptops to remember the school network, and automatically connect to it when they are turned on. The other thing schools annoyingly do is hide the network, as well as encrypt it with a password to keep out pesky students. Well with iPods now WiFi enabled, along with the new netbook trend, more and more students could benefit from internet access at school. But how do you get the password? You could hack it, but you would need to bring in your laptop and sit there fumbling around with a wireless antenna and you would probably get caught. You could bribe the school IT guy, yeah right. Or you could use Wireless Key View, a free program by NirSoft that decodes the saved network password key files. “Decodes the what?” Remember how I was saying that most schools tell their laptops to remember the network? Well the network password is stored somewhere on that computer, and Wireless Key View grabs it and shows it to you! Then you can go out and tell your friends, and pretty soon the whole school has access to the network from their iPod’s, their laptops, anything. So basically, all you need to do is download Wireless Key View from Nirsoft and extract the ZIP file to your flash drive, then plug your flash drive into your school computers and run Wireless Key View to get the password. It’s as simple as that.

For some schools this is unlikely to work. Most schools don’t allow you to put any USB’s into the computers/laptops, because it could hold a virus.

@ Sophie:
I don’t think you could say “most” schools. Certainly some do, but I think that hte majority of schools world-wide do allow them.

I managed to guess my school’s Wi Fi password today on my iPhone, yet even though it’s connected, I’m still unable to use the Safari / Facebook etc.. on it.
One of the nerdy art teachers at my school said that I’d need additional software to hack it. Can anyone help, please?

I did this today, now schools have a proxy server to filter out graphic stuff. So its problem proxy.embc…. w.e your school has. Along with the Port number. You can add this by clicking the little arrow on your iPhone when your connected to it in this WiFi section.
